A TRIBUTE TO STEFFI GRAF.
Author: Adriano Pérez

A few months ago I was subscribed at the official page titled
"Steffi Graf Tribute" of Facebook. This interesting page is conducted by
one of her numerous fans who is making a great work of divulgation
about Steffi Graf and her sporting career an personal history.
He sent to me a message at my own page of Facebook and proposed me
to write an article answering different matters about Steffi
and I accepted this honoured repute.
First of all I would say here that I´m not specially interested in her
private life and gossips. So that let´s me start with a brief encounter
about her brilliant and historical sporting biography.

A notable feature of Graf's game was her versatility across all
playing surfaces. She won six French Open singles titles and seven
Wimbledon singles titles (third behind Navratilova and Helen Wills
Moody). She is the only singles player to have achieved a Calendar
Year Grand Slam while playing on all three major types of tennis
courts (grass courts, clay courts and hard courts), as the Calendar
Year Grand Slams won by other players before her occurred when the
Australian and US Opens were still played on grass. Graf reached
thirteen consecutive Grand Slam singles finals, from the 1987 French
Open through to the 1990 French Open, winning nine of them. She played
in 36 Grand Slam singles tournaments from the 1987 French Open, her
first Grand Slam win, through the 1999 French Open, her last Grand
Slam win, reaching the finals 29 times and winning 22 titles. She
reached a total of 31 Grand Slam singles finals, third overall behind
Evert (34 finals) and Navratilova (32 finals).
Graf is considered by some to be the greatest female player. Billie
Jean King said in 1999, "Steffi is definitely the greatest women's
tennis player of all time." Martina Navratilova has included Graf
on her list of great players. In December 1999, Graf was named the
greatest female tennis player of the 20th century by a panel of
experts assembled by the Associated Press. Tennis writer Steve
Flink, in his book The Greatest Tennis Matches of the Twentieth
Century, named her as the best female player of the 20th century.
Graf retired in 1999 while she was ranked World No. 3. I could to
tell that she was retired in the zenith point of her wonderful Tennis
career due her unfortunate accumulation of injuries.
She married former World No. 1 men's tennis player Andre Agassi
in October 2001 and they have two children, Jaden Gil and Jaz Elle.

Since this point that is all we know about her history and her legend.
At this second part of my topic I would like to answer one of the
important inquiries of the leader of her Official page.
He asked me how it's possible that Steffi Graf has less fans and
followers at her Official pages and personal Blogs than other female
famous Tennis-Players like Anna Kournikova, Maria Sharapova and
the Serena and Venus William´s sisters.

In this matter occurs an apparent contradiction. As a matter of fact
Steffi Graf was the most important and grateful worldwide tennis
player of all times. And she had became the most important female
athlete during the nineties´ decade.
In the real world her numbers of fans is the most numerous too. But
this reality don´t appear in the officials pages and blogs at
internet. We must meet an answer for that contradiction.
I believe that there are two important reasons about Steffi Graf hasn´t
the number of fans she deserves. I´ll try to explain that in this part.
One of them is the fact that she was retired since 1999 of the public
Tennis competitions. It past eleven years and, as we know, the majority
of people has a short memory. It would be necessary to show some new
actions every day and to remain the notices and gossips daily. If not the
natural tendencies of people are to forget it.
The second important reason is because the young people knows more about
Internet, social nets and blogs than the previous generations. And
these youngsters live in the same generation of Maria Sharapova and
Serena & Venus William´s sisters, for example. Obviously they are
pontificated with tennis players of their same generation. That´s the
logical explanation of this issue. The majority of persons who lives
the Steffi Graf tennis players´ triumphs are in the group of ages
about 35 to 50 years. And the majority of persons of this age´s group
there aren´t a lot of practice at Internet, blogs and social nets than
the posterior one.

Let´s me finish this topic about the grateful Steffi Graf Tennis Player
giving you a lot of thanks to lend me write this article about her.
I hope that it would be answer some of your questions and inquiries.
